Reaching Out to the Community

· Senior Housing - Streams is in the process of building an affordable senior housing apartment complex on our property. This will be open to all members of the community on a first-come, first-served basis, with income qualifications. A construction date has not yet been set.

· Operation Shoes - This program provides the opportunity for members to donate money to the Tucson Unified School District's Clothing Bank for the purpose of buying new shoes for needy children in the school district.

· Hearts and Hammers - This is a group of volunteers within the church who provide volunteer labor to do basic repairs or maintenance for members of the community who are unable to do the work themselves and who do not have the resources to pay for someone to do them. Work Days are scheduled throughout the year.

· Streams in the Desert members support many projects in the Tucson Area.

· Lutheran Social Ministries of the Southwest - Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church supports this agency which provides many social services to the community. They can be reached at 327-2800.

Worship and Music

The ministry of worship and music is guided by a Worship and Music Committee. David Hernandez is the director of music who leads  four choirs and praise band :

1) Adult choir (Joy choir)

2) Bell choir (Bells Angels)

3) Youth choir (JR/SR High Youth)

4) Childrens choir (ages 4-10)

5) Praise band

David utilizes talents of members for special music. A volunteer Praise band, leading one service for several years, has exceptional musical talent, and the contemporary worship has fostered membership growth. Numerous volunteers from our congregation are regularly called upon for lay participation in various aspects of worship. Seasonal “pulpit exchange” with other Lutheran churches has been a good opportunity for variety. Multi-media and variety in worship resources has been a strength that is appreciated.

Rehersal Schedules are as follows:

Wednesday:

Praise practice: 5:00-6:00pm

Childrens practice 5:30-6:00pm.

Youth choir 6:00-6:30pm.

Thursday:

Bells Angels: 6:00-7:00pm

Joy Choir: 7:15-8:45pm
